Sophie Winkleman's Biography
Sophie Winkleman, the British actress, was born in England on 5 August 1980. Sophie attended the City of London School for Girls before studying for her degree at Cambridge University, where she read English Literature at Trinity Hall.
As a member of the Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club (a renowned comedy company, whose past members include some of Britain's best-known actors and comedians), Sophie Winkleman co-wrote and appeared in the Club's critically acclaimed 2001 National Tour. Sophie went on to become a member of the National Youth Theatre. Sophie's early television performances included a leading role in Waking the Dead, for which she received the BBC's Best British Newcomer award.
Sophie speaks English and French. Her range of English accents include New York, Southern, West Coast, Irish, Scottish, Cockney and regional. She sings lead soprano and is skilled in horse riding.
Sophie Winkleman is the daughter of Barry Winkleman and Cindy Black and the half-sister of TV presenter Claudia Winkleman. Sophie married Lord Frederick (Freddie) Windsor, son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, in September 2009 and continues to use her maiden name for professional purposes.
