Sophie Winkleman joins original crew for Red Dwarf: Back to Earth

Sophie Winkleman plays Katerina Bartikovsky in a new three part mini-series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, commissioned by TV channel Dave to commemorate the cult sci-fi comedy show's 21st anniversary. Sophie appears as a holographic version of one of Red Dwarf's science officers. Katerina is a smarter and higher ranking hologram than Rimmer, for whom she is intended as a replacement. Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Robert Llewellyn and Danny John-Jules all return in Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, which begins on Dave at 9pm on 10 April 2009. A "making of" documentary about the new series airs on 12 April, with the trilogy and documentary repeated on 13 April.

Sophie Winkleman in Robin Hood, BBC1

Sophie Winkleman plays Robin Hood's mother in the new drama series showing on BBC1 and BBC HD from 28 March 2009. Sophie appear in one episode as Ghislaine, a pivotal character in the storyline.

Sophie Winkleman and Lord Frederick (Freddie) Windsor announce engagement

Sophie Winkleman (28) has become engaged to marry Lord Frederick Windsor (29), having accepted a romantic Valentine's Day proposal. The engagement was announced formally by a spokesperson for the couple's parents. Lord Frederick (better known to the press and public as Freddie Windsor) is the son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and is 31st in line to the throne. Prince Michael is a cousin to both the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen. Sophie and Freddie had been dating for two years and now plan to marry later in 2009. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Sophie Winkleman in new Harry & Paul series

Sophie Winkleman has returned to BBC1 - on Friday nights at 9pm from September 2008 - in the new series of Harry and Paul, the popular comedy sketch show starring Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse. Sophie plays a variety of roles, including as a keen but clueless regular customer at the bric-a-brac shop "I Saw You Coming". Unless trickery was involved, the series has also marked Sophie's on-screen return to riding on horseback - something we weren't expecting to see again following Sophie's self-confessed Narnia mishap! (see "Playing Up" in interviews)

Sophie Winkleman in The Palace, ITV

Sophie plays the role of Princess Eleanor in The Palace, ITV's contemporary drama that offers compelling insights into the lives of a fictional Royal Family. The first episode, which aired on Monday 14 January 2008, saw a young Prince become King Richard IV following the sudden death of his father. As the oldest child, Eleanor feels that the Crown should have passed to her. Sophie enjoys considerable screen time as one of the key plot lines follows Princess Eleanor's ongoing power struggle.

Sophie Winkleman in Love Live Long, Gumball 3000 Rally Film By Mike Figgis

Sophie Winkleman stars as Rachel in an exploratory film directed by Mike Figgis (Oscar nominated director of Leaving Las Vegas) based around the 2007 Gumball Rally. The film was shot over seven days by a team of four in addition to Sophie and her co-star, Daniel Lapaine (Australian born actor and husband of Cold Feet's Fay Ripley). By using such a small team, they were able to shoot intimate scenes whilst in the midst of huge crowds and in other busy venues. Sophie plays a depressed young woman who has a chance intimate encounter with an arrogant, married rally driver (Lapaine). Head of Film Production for co-producer Gumball 3000 Films is Patrick Fischer.

Sophie Winkleman in two new TV series - Peep Show and Harry Enfield / Paul Whitehouse

Sophie appeared in two new television comedy series, both of which were first screened in April 2007.

Fans of Peep Show will already be familiar with her role as Big Suze, from previous series of this popular comedy, which focuses on the lives of Mark and Jeremy as played by David Mitchell and Robert Webb. The new series of Peep Show began on Friday 13 April at 10.30pm on Channel 4.

Sophie also makes various appearances during the course of Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse's collaborative TV show, Ruddy Hell! It's Harry And Paul, which began on Friday 13 April on BBC1 at 9.30pm.

Sophie Winkleman began filming in Summer 2007 for a new film, Love Bites. She plays the lead role of Gail, an emotionally disturbed and vulnerable young woman.

Sophie Winkleman in "Natalie"

Sophie plays the lead role in Natalie, an independent film produced by i-Wire Films in Ireland and directed by Rick Larkin.  The film is due for release around September 2007.

Sophie in BBC Radio 4 Play

Sophie played Anna Freud Tune in the radio play "Doctor Freud Will See You Now, Mrs Hitler", which aired on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday 31 March 2007 at 2.30pm.  The play, written by Lawrence Marks and Maurice Gran, imagines what might have happened had Hitler undergone therapy.
